I soaked up learning to type with Mavis Beacon software and playing Oregon Trail RPG game. Then there were the bulletin board systems (BBS) that existed before there was the Internet we know and love today. Fast forward to my first job being at Earthlink, Inc. in Pasadena, CA after high school in the early 90s to now being an IT leader after being in the industry for more than 20 years.

Current Things I love

Edward Bernays’ Engineering of Consent | Forward Party Online Series

Dr. John Thor Cornelius shares the studies around how our understanding of the human mind works and explains how the human species is not prepared for modern hacking of the mind by preferring the left-brain. IT aligns with my activism volunteering in my spare time around how to changing hearts and minds by exercising the right-brain. Definitely check out the podcasts to understand the myths of the left and right brain and what the current understanding of the brain prove Edward Bernays’ theories before we had the science to explain them.

Elon Musk’s Master Plan | My Tesla Referral Link

Elon (before he went crazy) touted that three advances for humanity’s future will be 1) humanity migrating away from fossil fuels to save the planet (Tesla), 2) humanity becoming a spacefaring race (SpaceX) and 3) humanity protecting itself from a super-intelligent AI. Since then, his plan has meandered away from that vision but I still agree with the original premise, if not having my own thoughts add by expanding on them. Not just fossil fuels but housing and how we organize ourselves (in America’s 250 year history, only 15-20 years, less than 10% of it’s history, has it not been at war which includes undeclared military conflicts, interventions or occupations.) Let’s just say humans are messy.

Andrew Yang’s #YangGang Plan | Policy Website

I’m a huge science fiction geek. Imagining the future gives me hope and the hope is that capitalism won’t be the driving force of humanity anymore. We will have such abundance that we will be able to sustain ourselves as exemplified in our fiction, specifically, Star Trek. The homeless on our city streets today will be taken care of (ever since Reagon did away with federal mental health institutions) and people will be driven by ideals like advancing humanity in science and culture (hopefully).

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA)’s Green New Deal

If you’re starting to see a theme here, it’s planning for the future and solving today’s problems. Rather than “protecting” existing things, we get to solve inequality (racial, LGBT, immigrant and economic) and climate change while building the economy of tomorrow. Both the previous two plans approach it from different directions and this one is no different. I don’t believe that any single plan will solve all of our problems but all of them working together, picking the best ideas as we implment them, as the original New Deal did, will build the future of tomorrow.

Google Authenticator two-factor authentication

Apple Macbook Pro (Silicon) laptop

Samsung Note 20 Ultra smartphone

HPE Nimble storage systems

Cisco Systems networking solutions

Past Things I love

HP Spectre X360

Samsung S10 Plus

When I was in elementary school, I would take apart my parent’s IBM AT computer and put it back together again.
